Winter Trails

By early January, a thick blanket of snow covers the rocky terrain, filling in rough spots and producing heaps and mounds of winter powder, ready for snow-shoeing and trail blazing.

Snow machines blast through the deep snow, leaving a welcome trail: parallel ski tracks separated by a foot of packed down, churned up snow, suitable for walking on without sinking in too much, and for cross country skiing.

On a sunny day in late winter you’ll see skiers, dog walkers and the occasional cyclist on trails all over the hill; over time the hill is covered with tracks, including animal prints that eventually fade like melting wax into the landscape.
